book relaunch and lecture by Petr Pelčák

The development of modern Brno, regarded as one of the leading centres of modern architecture in Central Europe, was profoundly shaped by a generation of Jewish architects who created a distinctive architectural movement that differed from the city’s well-known tradition of Functionalism. Their buildings—from private villas and apartment houses to public institutions—remain among the most remarkable features of Brno’s urban landscape.

On the occasion of the reissue of the publication Jewish Architects in Brno, 1919–1939, architect and architectural historian Petr Pelčák will present the work of figures such as Ernst Wiesner, Otto Eisler, Alfred Neumann, Norbert Troller, Endre Steiner, Jindřich Blum, Zoltán Egri, and Max Tintner. The lecture will explore not only their architectural achievements, but also the cultural and social environment in which they worked, highlighting the extraordinary role Jewish architects played in shaping the modern character of interwar Brno.

The lecture will be held in Czech.
