A Lad Like a Doe: Queer Desire in the Work of Jiří Langer

CZK 50

lecture by Daniel Soukup

This lecture explores expressions of queer desire and imagination in the works of Prague-born Jiří Langer (1894–1943). Literary historian and Judaic studies scholar Daniel Soukup will present three key areas of Langer’s work: his original Hebrew poetry, his translations of medieval Hebrew lyric poetry, and his formative experience within the Hasidic community. In all these areas, Langer’s remarkably open approach to male–male love can be traced, moving between tradition, spirituality, and personal identity.

The lecture will be held in Czech.
