The Stones of the Disappeared are brass-topped paving stones embedded in pavements outside the last known homes of victims of totalitarian persecution. They commemorate Jewish residents murdered during the Holocaust, members of the resistance and political opposition, soldiers, and civilians who were forced to leave their homes. Unobtrusive yet striking, the stones become part of the public space, drawing attention to stories that might otherwise be forgotten.
Led by Barbora Dočkalová, Head of the ŠTETL Centre for Jewish Culture, this guided walk through Brno city centre will introduce participants to the individual stories of several people commemorated by the Stones of the Disappeared. It will also provide practical information about how a new stone can be commissioned or an existing one adopted.
