A Discussion with Descendants of the Kohn Family

The Kohns were closely connected to the city of Brno not only because of their thriving family business in the extraction of brick clay and the production of bricks and cement, but also because they had called this city their home for four generations. They built houses here, sent their children to local schools, and participated in public and social life.

During a discussion with the descendants of businessman Pavel Kohn—who was forced to flee Brno in 1939 because of his Jewish heritage—we’ll learn just how deeply their Czechoslovak roots shaped their lives, as well as the stories their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. For example, why they kept raccoons and other unusual animals in the villa, or how their grandfather and great-grandfather Pavel spent his free time. The discussion with the descendants will be led by religious studies scholar and director of the “Library of Stolen Hopes” project, Mgr. Kristýna Zubčáková.
