Polyphonic Traditions of the Mediterranean

Workshop

CZK 1,250

This workshop is an invitation to discover the beauty and depth of Mediterranean polyphonies. Together we will explore the art of singing together in layered harmonies rooted in oral traditions from Greece, Italy and the Balkans. Vocal and body exploration will support this process through breath, movement, and awareness, helping us connect sound with physical presence and resonance.

As the leader of this workshop, my role is to facilitate an environment where each voice can find confidence, expression, and connection within the collective sound. Being born and raised in the Mediterranean culture, I have immersed myself in the study and practice of different polyphonic traditions, as well as singing traditional music rooted in oral and communal practices.

The workshop welcomes all levels of experience. Only curiosity, openness, and a willingness to lend your voice to the group! Sheet music will be provided as a reference, but no music-reading experience is necessary.

The workshop will be held in English.

About Angelika Christodoulou

Angelika Christodoulou is a singer from Cyprus who grew up surrounded by Mediterranean music and oral singing traditions. She studied Music and Mathematics in Wales and spent a year abroad at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her vocal journey began at a young age with classical training, which provided a strong technical foundation before leading her into the world of jazz and improvisation. Alongside these influences, she has continuously explored and studied the music of her roots, working with Greek, Cypriot and Eastern Mediterranean songs, polyphonic singing traditions, as well as studying the oud.

Angelika has performed in Wales, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany and the Netherlands, and has further enriched her musical practice through workshops with Panagiotis Panagakis, Giorgos Kontrafouris and Natalia Kotsani at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop.
