The Story of the Herdans’ Apartment – A Lecture by Michal Doležel

Richard and Johanna Herdan received their apartment on Hlinky Street in Brno as a wedding gift in 1933. Designed by architect Emerich Horvát, its interior still impresses with its exotic woods, travertine and carefully considered details. The couple lived here with their two children until 1938, when their Jewish origins forced them to seek refuge in South Africa. They never returned to Brno. Researcher Michal Doležel will tell the story of the family and their remarkably well-preserved interior, which has survived its residents’ departure, retaining the character, taste and elegance of their former home.
