A story of a fortunate return emerging from thousands of stories of objects and people lost forever.
This original stage work traces nearly a century in the history of the Strach family of Brno. At its heart lies the story of a book confiscated in Terezín, which lay dormant for decades before being rediscovered and returned to the family.
Cornel Strach’s machzor was part of a collection of 12,000 liturgical books confiscated from Jews in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The book’s quiet testimony to the lives of its owners speaks with the deafening force of historical, involuntary, and tragic simplicity.
